It can be yarn, ufos, untried skills, whatever. To each their own, but it's the list that is the point. So here's my personal Mission Possible pledge. 12 UFO's by the end of the year. Here they are in no particular order:

WIPs:
1. Birthday scarf
2. wavy ribbed scarf
3. shimmer shrug
4. ballet shrug

Stash:
1. tater cotton cardi
2. psychedelic afgan squares
3. rippled baby blanket
4. pants on fire

To do for me:
1. So guess what? It's my turn!

"It's the Pay It Forward Exchange, based on the concept of the movie "Pay it Forward" where acts or deeds of kindness are done without expecting something in return... just passing it on, with hope that the recipients of the acts of kindness continue to pass it along as well. Here's how it works: I will make and send a handmade gift to the first 3 people who leave a comment to this post on my blog requesting to join this exchange. I do not know what that gift will be yet, and it won't be sent this month, probably not next month, but it will be sent (within 6 months) and that's a promise! What YOU have to do in return, then, is pay it forward by making the same promise on your blog."kellyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/15860209346709333324noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2749874257378121916.post-24004269968783519572007-12-01T11:55:00.000-05:002007-12-01T12:34:01.624-05:00In the spirit of getting ready for the holiday season here is a little meme:

Gifts

Do you have a favorite gift that you love to give?

Anything handmade by me

If you’re making gifts this year, what are you making?
I am making ...
5 scarves
3 hats
2 shrugs
1 cardigan

Name one thing on your personal wish list.

I want yarn. It's the only thing that I ever want. I like any kind, in any color. My joy is in making it into something for someone. I don't want it to make anything for myself, just to have the pleasure of touching the yarn.

Do you make and sell things that would make fantastic gifts?

No, but my sisters say that I should. People tell my sisters that they would love for me to knit them various items.

Traditions

What is your favorite family holiday tradition?

I like decorating the christmas tree with my kids and making cookies.

Have you started any new traditions with your family that you didn’t practice growing up?

Yes, we have themed christmas dinners. Last year we had a German Christmas and this year French.

What do you love most about the holiday season?

I love the atmosphere, rich colors and feeling of peace.

What do you like least about the holiday season?

I hate the rude people that feel entitled to anything they want. From making snide comments, taking my parking space in their Land Rover to looking down on my gifts because they are handmade.

Anyone close to your heart that you’ll be missing this year?

My grandfather in Florida.

What is your favorite holiday food?

I love anything chocolate, lebkucken, mashed potatoes with gravy. It is hard to define what my short & long term priorities are. So let's start with the facts.
I am a 31 year old mother of two. I was underweight all my life until I became pregnant with my daughter. I had a very high metabolism and had to constantly eat to maintain my weight. I am now 45 pounds heavier and it makes me look pregnant ( all stomach ).
I started walking 10,000 steps on April 10. As of today, I have lost 10 pounds.

Goals:
May:
1. I want to lose 4 pounds by May 31.
2. I want to increase my strength training to 3 times a week.
3. I want to jump rope for 10 minutes straight.
4. I need to eat 2 more fruit and veggies each everyday.
5. I want to increase my steps to 12,000 a day.

Long term:
1. I will weigh 130 pounds.
2. I will fit into a size 8 clothes.
3. I will be toned and sugar free.
4. I will be able to run a mile without stopping.kellyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/15860209346709333324noreply@blogger.com3tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2749874257378121916.post-78212925331436627652007-05-13T10:41:00.000-04:002007-05-13T10:48:44.608-04:00Happy Mother's Day!I read this on a site i visit:

This is for the mothers who have sat up all night with sick kids in their arms, wiping up barf laced with Oscar Mayer wieners and cherry Kool-Aid saying, "It's all right honey, Mommy's here." Who have sat in rocking chairs for hours on end soothing crying babies who can't be comforted.
This is for all the mothers who show up at work with spit-up in their hair and milk stains on their blouses and diapers in their purse. For all the mothers who run carpools and make cookies and sew Halloween costumes. And all the mothers who DON'T.
This is for the mothers who gave birth to babies they'll never see. And the mothers who took those babies and gave them homes. And for the mothers who lost their baby in that precious 9 months that they will never get to watch grow on earth but one day will be reunited with in Heaven!
This is for the mothers whose priceless art collections are hanging on their refrigerator doors. And for all the mothers who froze their buns on metal bleachers at football or soccer games instead of watching from the warmth of their cars, so that when their kids asked, "Did you see me, Mom?" they could say, "Of course, I wouldn't have missed it for the world," and mean it.
This is for all the mothers who go hungry, so their children can eat. For all the mothers who read "Goodnight, Moon" twice a night for a year. And then read it again. "Just one more time."
This is for all the mothers who taught their children to tie their shoelaces before they started school. And for all the mothers who opted for Velcro instead.
This is for all the mothers who teach their sons to cook and their daughters to sink a jump shot. This is for every mother whose head turns automatically when a little voice calls "Mom?" in a crowd, even though they know their own offspring are at home -- or even away at college.
This is for all the mothers who sent their kids to school with stomach aches assuring them they'd be just FINE once they got there, only to get calls from the school nurse an hour later asking them to please pick them up. Right away.
This is for mothers whose children have gone astray, who can't find the words to reach them. This is for all the step-mothers who raised another woman's child or children, and gave their time, attention, and love... Sometimes totally unappreciated! For all the mothers who bite their lips until they bleed when their 14-year-olds dye their hair green. For all the mothers of the victims of recent school shootings, and the mothers of those who did the shooting. For the mothers of the survivors, and the mothers who sat in front of their TVs in horror, hugging their child who just came home from school, safely.
This is for all the mothers who taught their children to be peaceful, and now pray they come home safely from a war. What makes a good Mother anyway? Is it patience? Compassion? Broad hips? The ability to nurse a baby, cook dinner, and sew a button on a shirt, all at the same time? Or is it in her heart? Is it the ache you feel when you watch your son or daughter disappear down the street, walking to school alone for the very first time? The jolt that takes you from sleep to dread, from bed to crib at 2 A.M. To put your hand on the back of a sleeping baby? The panic, years later, that comes again at 2 A.M. When you just want to hear their key in the door and know they are safe again in your home? Or the need to flee from wherever you are and hug your child when you hear news of a fire, a car accident, a child dying? The emotions of motherhood are universal and so our thoughts are for young mothers stumbling through diaper changes and sleep deprivation... And mature mothers learning to let go. For working mothers and stay-at-home mothers. Single mothers and married mothers. Mothers with money, mothers without. This is for you all. For all of us. Hang in there. In the end we can only do the best we can. Tell them every day that we love them. And pray. AND PRAY....AND PRAY!kellyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/15860209346709333324noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2749874257378121916.post-69366038334245722342007-05-02T12:43:00.000-04:002007-05-17T14:02:17.124-04:00Sorry been away for a while. I finished the dance shorts for my niece and started a wrap sweater. I tore it apart several times 'cause I didn't like the way the stitches looked. Then I didn't like the bottom edge. THEN I cast on and started to knit the wrong number of stitches. It should go quickly since she's only four.

In other news, I got my sock pal (knitee). I am worried that I won't make socks that she will like. Or their going to be too big. Or not good enough. Or she's going to take them apart and do them to her liking. Maybe I should just send her the yarn and $10 and say "I am not worthy". My stomach hurts!

My sock pal (knitter) already emailed me with really good questions! If her/his questions are any indication of what my socks are going to be like I am going to cry my eyes out with gratitude.kellyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/15860209346709333324noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2749874257378121916.post-20487826487455085502007-04-26T15:42:00.000-04:002007-05-17T14:02:17.125-04:00I joined the Sockapalooooza 4!
